Trachea - histology slide

This is a histology slide of the trachea. The mucosal lining is made up of ciliated pseudostratified columnar epithelium which rests on a
basement membrane. Beneath the lamina propria are abundant mucus-producing goblet cells. A portion of a ring of hyaline cartilage surrounded by smooth muscle can be seen.

Histology image descriptions and photography by Frank N. Miller, M.D.; histology image courtesy of Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
