This is a histology slide of thick skin. Thick skin (palms and soles) has an overlying epidermis with a prominent cornified layer. At high power the layers of the epidermis are from below out basal (stratum germinativum); prickle cell or Malpighian (stratum spinosum); stratum granulosum; stratum lucidum; and nonnucleated stratum corneum.
